You may be interested in checking out Mariposa County. Depending where the property is located, you can be 45 minutes from Merced or an hour from Fresno.

Vegetables? Hmmm...I'm visualizing a new community snapping these places up for their low price and growing ability, but not for veggies...

One can support a family just fine on depressed rural incomes... One just has to be able to not spend like a fast paced city slicker...

Have no debt, don't eat out, drive old cars, no need for fashion clothing, and one can live good and raise a family if both parents get 30 hours at $10 per week.... Not saving but getting by just fine..... Vast swaths of rural America have been living that way for generations.... The fast paced compete with the Jones's life style is a recent phenomena. Basically a marketing gimmick city people fell for..... LOL

We do people start threads like this asking a question then just disappear without ever making another post?

LOL Yeah, they figure out they have to think and/or make a decision. I have seen that dilemma right there drive many away.

Why move to the desert when you can move to the central coast for that price?

The desert is a fine place to live, find a canyon, out on the flats like California City is not so good, but, here is a nice house in the desert, I'd be happy to live here;
