My husband and I are taking a two week road trip from Seattle to either San Francisco or San Diego, depending on how much there is to see.

What are the "must sees" for in Central California between San Francisco and Los Angeles?

We're thinking of flying with a tent so we can camp on occasion.

I'd love to hear your ideas!

I also love Pismo Beach, Avila Beach, San Luis Obispo, camping on Refugio State Beach (north of Santa Barbara), Santa Barbara. Central California is charming!

This. You can add this to your NorCal tour (see your other thread), and you'll have a complete itinerary. 2 weeks isn't much to cover all of CA. You'd do best to focus on NorCal and Yosemite (which should be at least 4 days of your trip--just Yosemite itself, not counting the drive to and from), then on a future trip, you could do more of central and southern CA, with a couple of stops at your fave NorCal places on the way.

Calif. is a big state. Don't think you can cover it all in 2 weeks. That wouldn't be realistic. You'd cheat yourself of some of the best sights. You'd spread yourself too thin.

La Purisima Mission. It is absolutely the most realistic old California Mission of the bunch, nestled in beautiful hills in the middle of nowhere, rural like it was centuries ago.
