I have seen many threads that start out with "I want to find a place with low crime and no gangs". Later, they find such a place, look around and proclaim it's TOO white. How is one supposed to react to that?

Not only that. But because it is too white, it will be classified by them as racist and republican.

Default no problem for me

I am a 5th generation mexican american with a white girlfriend. In my 28 years on the central coast I have never experienced racism in SLO. We occasionally get stares from older people who aren't used to seeing an interracial couple. But who cares, as long as we are happy with eachother. I love SLO, it's a great place to raise children just like Valencia CA.

It's a great idea to buy a house in SLO, go for it. Racism is going to be everywhere. And in my opinion I don't see it in SLO. But keep in mind that SLO is a conservative town that does not like growth on a personal and corporate level. Meaning they do not allow most big Los Angeles based stores here and they do not allow new homes to be built. They don't even allow restaurants to have a drive thru because of the pollution from cars.

The reason why there aren't very many hispanics in SLO is because it is too expensive to live there. Most of them live in Santa Maria because it is cheap and there is no law that says how many people can stay in a house. But in SLO they are strict about such things.
