I've seen a number of posts regarding relocating and I have a few target areas I've been looking into. One location is Merced or the surrounding areas. The main problem is employment. If you're not relocating with a current employer or have a unique in demand skill it's almost impossible to get a job unless you just pack up and move. That's not an option at my age. To old for that. One thing I have going for me is I'm mobile. No house or major belongings to sell.

Just interested in any constructive feedback.

Thanks

If you don't have a job waiting for you in Merced (or the Central Valley that matter) don't move there. The unemployment rate is very high and competition is tough. I lived in Merced for five years back in the mid 90s and its a nice enough San Joaquin Valley small city, but again, the employment situation is difficult and always has been. Took me three years to find a really good job... and then two years later the company moved to the coast (and me with it). Fortunately during that three years I could live with my parents and take classes at Merced College while I did temp position stints with Manpower.

About the only way I can see getting a job in that area with any degree of ease is if you are some sort of health care professional.
