That's true, but who cares? It has little effect on your day to day life, unless you travel a lot. And if you travel a lot, then you're not actually spending much time in the state that's supposed to be so wonderful.

I moved to California last summer from the east. I have a condo with a beautiful view of the Pacific. I love it here and am happier than I ever dreamed was possible. I'm not crazy about the politics, the deficit, or the traffic, but everything else more than makes up for these few negatives.

It DOES have an effect on my daily life, because I know it, and it makes me proud to be a Californian.

You've only been here a year or less. The honeymoon period usually lasts 2 years. After that, the negatives of living here start to wear on people. It may not be the case for you, but it is the case for many. Just something to be aware of.

Ok, if you say so. Doesn't do a thing for me.

But you don't think that is exclusive to California experience, do you? Kinda typical ... Hawaii is the same ... NY City ... everywhere. Except Arvin and Crescent City, that is.

Yeah, I care too. I go to Houston fairly often and without fail, one of the Southwest Airlines ticket people will see my San Francisco address and go on and on about a vacation they had there, or their honeymoon, or their son who lives there and loves it. It's a place that inspires people to dream and create. They share it with you every chance they get. I'm more marketable in my field nationwide because I have worked in San Francisco. (Not that I'd leave by choice). There's a lot to being one of the world's great cities. Truly.

Does San Francisco have its own flag? Time to flag-wave, after all this inspiring oratory.
