I definitely recommend the North Shore - whether on the Nevada or California side. It's a blast to live there when you're young. Best time to get jobs is at the start of summer when tourism is starting up. It's been almost 30 years since I lived there, but when I go back for a visit, it has the same great feeling.

I'd live and work just across the state line in Nevada. Thereby taking advantage of NV's lower tax burden by far. Then play in Lake Tahoe.

Always thought that the Nevada side was much more expensive? Some very nice, very pricey areas up Kingsbury Grade.
