I agree, or maybe simply because they have work there and like it there.

Texas honestly sucks............

We have a winner.

If given the choice, I'd much rather live in Phoenix than the Inland Empire.

Phoenix is newer, cleaner, less expensive, more upscale, more family-friendly, and has much better-maintained roadways than the Inland Empire. Also, the air quality is marginally better in Phoenix.

Porterville:
My home town. I live here because the foothills and mountains are beautiful and they're not overrun with people. The weather sucks in the summer, but is pretty nice the rest of the year.

Not only do I have family here, but the California tax dollars take care of me unlike some other states would. I'm on federal disability, and the state of CA supplements it. I also get decent medical care with Medi-Cal (though vision and dental are no longer covered).

I know NV doesn't supplement SSI, because I looked at relocating to Carson City because of the COL there. WA is too gloomy - spent 18 years there, not living there again.

Not sure how AZ holds up as far as healthcare and supplementing social security, but I also don't like the idea of not being able to go to the beach for a weekend. That's off the table in AZ.

I did a bunch of research on where I could afford to live and stay in CA, and for me, it looks like Redding is it. Haven't looked at the inland valley, but I found what I want in Redding, and it's not an impossible drive to the beach, either.

So, anyway, for some in CA, the higher taxes now provide us old people with extra benefits. Some may be staying for that reason, like me.

I'm stuck in Stockton, otherwise I would love to be somewhere else.
