Being near San Diego's large naval establishments and tourist attractions, seeing out of state plates are the norm. Lots of TX and AZ. Many FL too. Of course the Baja CA plates are a staple here. Even some Sonora and Sinaloa here and there.

As for Washington plates, it's the same reason there are so many CA and OR plates around the downtown Seattle area lately - summer tourists. Many of us originally from CA drive down because we have many family and friends to visit. It's only 14 hours to the Bay Area and there are several different scenic routes.

Next door neighbor had her Washington plates for the two years she lived there. Think she moved to Chico about a year ago - probably still running round with them.

Funny I just saw this thread because I have been noticing this too.

Another weird thing is i've been noticing a ton of rental cars. They have those little barcode stickers on the back window.

It's weird...

The out of state plates though I'm thinking it could be a summer thing.. College students spending time in L.A for the summer..etc? Just because someone has an out of state plate doesn't mean they have moved here.

For the past six months or so my wife and I have felt like we've been seeing an excessive number of out of state license plates. It used to be normal to see an Oregon, Nevada or even Washington plate and now we're seeing dozens of those, as well as plates from Wisconsin, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico... even far away places like New York, Vermont, Florida, Alaska and Hawaii (the Hawaii one really threw me, I'm not even sure how that's possible).

At first I thought it had to do with some sort of local event, maybe the university graduation, but the surplus of out-of-state plates started way before that and has continued.

And tourists bring in revenue!
