I am new to the Bay Area and I am working at Stanford. I chose an apartment in Mountain View because I was looking to shorten my commute from old job. I live in Mountain View, right near the Los Altos/Palo Alto Line, but I have not been able to do my commute in less than 45 minutes! Averages 50-55 minutes. That is ridiculous because my commute is only 6.5 miles.

I have tried the Foothills Expressway (shortest with no traffic), the Central Expressway, 280, and El Camino. Are there any tricks to shortening my commute! All my coworkers live father out and have shorter commutes. I have talked to my boss and changing up my work hours is not an option.

I am saving up to buy a bicycle to commute on, but in the mean time I am going out of my mind with the traffic!

It takes you 45 minutes or more to go straight down El Camino?! Man that's brutal. Looks like you tried all the routes. I think the only solution is like you mentioned, a bike. Also, try the app Waze if you haven't already. Sometimes it routes you along some weird side streets and stuff and can save some time.
