One of the biggest brown trout in history at Lake Tahoe, just 5 ounces from the lake record, was landed last weekend amid a proliferation of giant fish at the south end of the lake.
The giant trout was 33 inches long and weighed 15 pounds, 9 ounces. The lucky angler was Gene St. Denis, who landed the fish after what he called "a hellacious 40-minute battle." It was netted at the boat by son Eric, who caught a 28-pound, 9-ounce mackinaw trout fishing with dad two weeks ago in the same area.

Nice trout for that cold sterile water.... Bet that fish is quite old..

Just a minnow though, compared to great lakes browns..
41+ pounder.. It is all about the forage...

41 ½-pound trout caught off Racine is likely world record

Macks were, like Browns introduced to Tahoe in the 19th century, largest mack caught at Tahoe was 37 lbs 6 oz.

Largest mac ever caught (great lakes) 102 lbs.

There is a photo, which I cannot find on the internet, but I have seen it of a 30 some lbs trout caught in Lake Tahoe with one foot wide jaw marks on it........!

As a kid I used to fish off the boat docks at the marina at Carnelian bay and often caught 2-3 browns, but they were 8-10" long. Never went for the macks, as they are so deep you had to troll with a lot of weight, but have wanted to go out on a charter for them.

Mickeys out of Carnelian is a good one. Always successful.

This was back in the early 90's though.

Wonder if they feed on all those dead bodies that are supposedly suspended within the depths.

Tahoe is better known for it's Mack fishery than for brownies, and at 15+ pounds, while certainly a fine trophy, it is rather small compared to some of the brutes caught elsewhere. A few of the other High Sierra lakes, such as the Bridgeport Twin Lakes have given up browns nearly twice that heavy.
