Wife and I are thinking about moving to Southern California and want to know the cheaper place to live. I know that's an oxymoron but still. We have sufficient money but we're don't want to break the bank.

Fullerton, Brea, Orange, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Garden Grove. That's about as close as you will get to the beach or south county on that budget and the apartments will be on the low end and may not be in the best areas.

You could rent out in the IE or Palmdale/Lancaster. Far away, but generally less expensive.
