We are taking a trip with our friends from out of town, will be driving to LA on Monday. One of them is quite pregnant , and uses the restroom quite frequently (and happens to prefer the cleaner ones )

Me being a guy, I usually only need to stop once or twice on this trip, and I don't really care about the cleanliness. She may need to stop much more frequently, so I kinda want to get an idea of the good clean restroom stops along this route. We are going down the typical route - 101-152-5.

I know of the Travel Authority in Buttonwillow, and usually stop there myself. In fact, I don't remember stopping anywhere OTHER than this place outside of some random gas stations in some no name towns.

Hotel lobbies are always good places to find clean restrooms.

Starbucks is pretty good, kind of how like McDonald's used to have clean restrooms.

Over the year's many of the rest area's we've stopped at, have had clean restrooms, unless there has been unusual high traffic... Safety Roadside Rest Areas - Caltrans

I'd avoid the McDonalds off the 5 at Lake Hughes Rd in Castaic. Recent personal experience speaking here.

That is one of the ones I have experience with as well, and I agree. If I need to stop in that area, I try to hold it for a little bit longer and stop at Pyramid Lake.

We have always found McDonalds having clean bathrooms, even if you don't like their food. It is always our stop on the highway when traveling. Well after reading your comment and Fontucky's I guess that shoots my theory out the window. Yes In and Out and hotel lobbies are probably good choices as well.

McDonald's Really can be hit and miss. Personally I have found the rest areas along I-5 to be pretty clean, at least in my experience. Also as mentioned, can't go wrong with Starbucks which are probably the cleanest you'll find.

I don't know what part of the bay you're leaving from but if from the inner east bay, another McDonald's to avoid is the one on San Pablo Ave. The one that straddles the Berkeley/Oakland city limit line. Very sketchy and never clean.
