as others are saying, yes and no. People in Ca, many are really into health and love their outdoor activities, and yes, some are pretty smug about it, but there are others who take life for granted and there are smug, fitness people everywhere now days. It is the trend, probably not a bad one, at that.

Personally, I love it.
Some New Yorkers try and play off NY as the most hip, cool, trendy, tolerant place, but let's be honest. NY is a joke compared to California. omg.

I don't know about being "the" coolest, fittest, trendiest, most tolerant, etc. (I don't think any one state stands out) but California is closed to it. Sure we haven't legalized marijuana like Colorado and Washington have, that's probably the most conservative/un-progressive facet of the state in decades.

As far as trendiness, fitness and tolerance I think that depends on which part of the state you go to. It's the third largest state in the union, there are some very different ideologies depending on where you are.
