People in Ca, many are really into health and love their outdoor activities, and yes, some are pretty smug about it, but there are others who take life for granted and there are smug, fitness people everywhere now days. I don't know about being "the" coolest, fittest, trendiest, most tolerant, etc. (I don't think any one state stands out) but California is closed to it. Sure we haven't legalized marijuana like Colorado and Washington have, that's probably the most conservative/un-progressive facet of the state in decades.
