Hello!

I was recently terminated without any explanation or warning. I only worked for this company for four months. The first three months my employer could say nothing wrong about me and absolutely gave me great reviews about my job performance. But, the last three weeks I worked there my employer started to act very nasty, but would not say why.

The owner of the company, her boss, had been calling her daily during that time and they had huge arguments about her performance and about his desire to just let the company go. I did hear my boss over the telephone with a handful of people that the company was going bankrupt within a few weeks. She has family and friends who invested in this company, and I think she will do anything to keep this company going. She even called her bank to approve a hundred thousand personal equity loan to use if she needed to keep the company solvent.

I was terminated via email when I was out sick for two days with the stomach flu. Then sent me an email letter with a letter of recommendation for my next employer.

Now she is contesting my unemployment claim saying that she fired me because of willful misconduct and that I did not have the skills to do my job. I have an extensive, successful business/work background and I was in total shock when I heard this. The EDD eligibility worker that I spoke with said that EDD would have to make a determination on who they believe as to whether or not I will receive unemployment benefits. I am a 59 year old woman and am terrified that I will not be able to secure another job in this current job market. I really need the unemployment money to tide me over until I can secure another job. I have worked and paid into this all my life and feel that it is my right to receive benefits when I deserve and have worked for it. I was terminated for whatever reason and am still shocked that all of this has happened. I thought that I had developed enough of a thick skin during all of my years of working in the corporate world, but . . . I guess I was wrong. I'm still reeling with what just happened.

Has anyone else had a similar experience, and . . . how did you deal with this?

I like Napa County. Esp the northern end of the Napa Valley-Calistoga is my favorite town in that county.

What do you like about Calistoga specifically?

OP: Can you change the title of your thread to 'need help re: termination/unemployment benefits in Napa county'? Or something like that? Also, move the thread to the employment section of the forum [scroll down on the main CD forum page to find it]. You can also use the search button and search that section of the forum for similar experiences to yours. I'm sure you will find helpful advice there, much more so than in this city/state forum, as far as your topic.

Also, to the other posters replying here: Is snark really necessary for this woman's post? Yea, there are quite a lot of random CD posts and situations, but obviously this woman is upset and panicked, and not that experienced with the forum. Discernment in 'snark implementation' is recommended, as posters and circumstances do vary. Be kind-you never know when you might need the same! Cheers!

What in the world does this have to do with helping out the OP?

I view Calistoga on two levels. One I love the town, because I have so many happy memories of going there as a child.

Secondly it hasn't changed a whole lot in terms of appearance. Calistoga feels very laid back and unsnobish (new word I just made up) compared to the rest of Napa county. Unpretentious. Relaxed. Doesn't have the cookie cutter tourist shops found in other wine country towns. You can't find a lousy restaurant if your life depended on it. Old school lodging easily found. And nearby is a real live geyser and a petrified forest!

Since this thread is six months old, why does it matter?
