Lets face it... even when the humidity is really low and it hits 100, 110, 115, 120 in the summer an evaporative cooler is totally useless here.

My parents lived up there for awhile back in the early to mid 90's. I don't remember ever visiting from late June through August. My parents had a beautiful deck in the backyard and that was best enjoyed in the spring and fall. We also occasionally walked on the river trail there. That can't be done (at least not for me) when the high temps are 100+. I agree with you.

I remember a few of my friends bought a home in the Redding area, back in the later 80's to early 90's. It was said the price for a nice house was still reasonable in the Redding area.

In the summers they spent much time in their pool, & bbq/eat in the shade of the backyard, where it was a little cooler.

That happened more than once. A couple of times the thermo in my car said 125, which I assume was coming from the sun soaking into the hot pavement under my car, but, still. Must have been between 110 - 120 to get that hot on the street.

I remember once, when I was a kid, a power line in our neighborhood snapped just from the heat. My mom took me to the mall to cool off until power was restored.
