If I was to live in South Lake Tahoe, I would want to just wake up on Saturday mornings and drag a stupid little rowboat down to the lake, row out to various spots and throw a line in. Is that do-able? Are there fishing spots that I could row to from town or would I have to drive somewhere to put the boat in? Then, when I'm out there on the lake, would I get pushed around by speedboats and jet-skiiers? I guess what I'm asking is, is it possible for a guy to go out by himself and have a quiet day fishing? Thank you for your help, SLT'ers.

Summer is the busiest time for the motor boaters and jet ski-ers. You'd have better luck for quietude in the spring.

Not hard at all!! It's like 20 or so miles long so I think you'll be able to find a quiet spot---my extended family go all the time on a boat (with motor).

Here's a pretty good site on what's biting where and when--http://www.fishsniffer.com/locations/lakes/lake-tahoe/

You can catch 8-12" rainbows and brown trout from some of the boat docks when there is no activity, but in summer you have to go deeper and away from the beaches and boat rental places. From South Tahoe go up the Nevada side.
For big Macinaws you need to troll deep, 50-150'. Actually, Donner Lake has better fishing if you have no motor, I have caught decent fish there from the bank.
