The employment report released last week showed that California led the nation in job creation and decline in unemployment rate. The economy in California has improved greatly since 2012 as has the state budget situation. California continues to lead the nation in venture capital startups (new business creation). The state must be doing something right in order for these positive developments to occur. So, no, California should not be split into two or more states -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

For many, it's broke if Fox News says so.

And you could add other states to that list, Northern FL and Southern FL feel completely different.
Agree! The same could be said for western Washington (Seattle/Tacoma) & western Oregon (Portland & Eugene) compared to their sparsely populated eastern halves. Very different. Also southern Minnesota (Twin Cities/Rochester, etc) compared to sparsely populated northern Minnesota; southern Illinois with less population compared to northern Illinois (Chicago region); the southern portion of Michigan (Detroit/Grand Rapids, etc) compared to the sparsely populated upper peninsula.

By the OP's logic, many states should do this. However, most people are glad that not every part of a state is identical with other regions.

I am still surprised how close this vote was. Figured it would be 80/20 against separate states, but only about 60% in the poll.
