Hello,

My husband and I are thinking of moving down to Crescent City from WA state. We are middle aged and looking for some peace and quiet. He is a Senior Mechanical Engineer and I work from home. What is the rental market like? We have a house we plan on selling, but wanted to move before Winter. We also have 4 small dogs, so renting with pets "might" be a challenge? Also: what do people think of the area and job market? Ideally, my hubby would like to start working fairly quick. Would this place be nice for 2 pretty quiet people that keep to ourselves? I am a volunteer for our local pet rescue in WA, so I plan on volunteering in Del Norte County as well. Thank you for any advice and help.

I don't know much other than that it is very rainy there, more than Seattle. They get an occasional small tsunami but have a warning siren for that. Nice redwood forest parks near it.

I think the jobs are mainly in forestry and maybe fishing. Also guards at the maximum security prison, Pelican Bay. newspaper News | Crescent City California News, Sports, & Weather | The Triplicate

Crescent City housing is listed on the Siskiyou County Craigslist. I just looked this up for someone yesterday. Maybe it was you? Don't remember. Anyway you can start looking at rentals and jobs there. In the housing section, put in "Crescent City" in the search bar:

craigslist: siskiyou county classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

I don't have any personal knowledge of Crescent City. You might find more job opportunities in the Redding area:

craigslist: redding classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

Redding is a nice sized town (about 90,000), but you can quicky get out of town by just driving a couple miles in any direction, and you're in a country setting.

I grew up in crescent city and visit it often. It is a very small town, there is a Wal mart, Safeway, Walgreens, did I say it's a small town. It is beautiful though. The beach lines the entire town and it's very inviting. About 20 minutes north up the coast is brookings Oregon, if you need better shopping. About an hour n a half south is eureka, it's the closest town that's larger-they have a mall I feel the job market here is meager, so having a job before moving here sounds like a better bet. There isn't much to do there or many resources. Growing up if we needed something-like a specialty dr, we drove to eureka for that. I live in redding now, where it's 100 degrees half the year, so the weather in CC is a perfect escape. It's foggy a lot, but if you drive 30 miles up 199 you can go swimming in the smith river where it averages 90 in the summer. To correct an earlier post, housing and jobs are located on humbolts Craigslist, not siskiyou although a lot of people still just use the local newspaper, it is a small town quiet town. Medford Oregon is also about 2 hours north if you want a medium sized city with much to do.

Check out Triplicate.com (Del Norte Co local newspaper). There seems to be some rentals. Hope this helps a bit.
