I hate it. It's a flyover country term.
AHEM! I'm in what y'all Califoreigners would call "flyover country" and I'm a native Californian, as is my wife. We have never used the term, "Cali" and never will; never even heard it until about a decade ago. It sounded ignorant then and it sounds ignorant now.

I am in Flyover Country too. It's an aberration used by the native flyover folk.

Heck, I was not far from your neck of the woods in SE Kansas about a month ago.....yes, they say Cali too.

To Califoreigners I think Flyover Country begins when he first toenail crosses over the state line heading east.

Haven't heard "Cali" here yet but we'uns is just a buncha rednecks anyhow. "Cali" has too many syllables.

Besides the circle of bros this one apparently surrounded himself with (Cali=brospeak), everybody else must have got sick of hearing "Cali".

Maybe it will be a cool thing that goes over better in Flyover Country, and bros and chicks will dig it. Best of luck with that.

...or maybe those of us not native to the FC should return the favor and brand it Fly-i (Fly-E?). Anybody out in Springfield want to give that one a trial?

...except I've actually heard people pronounce California as "Californee" in Kentucky. I've also heard Illinois pronounced as "Illi-noise," the state capital of Frankfort as "Frankfort County" (it is actually part of Franklin County), and Ohio as "O-hia," all while in Kentucky. So yeah, pronunciation issues aren't really uncommon.

There is an undeniable correlation of the tendency to resort to the head-slap emoticon with a general aversion to context. But thanks for unwittingly bolstering my point. I too come from Okie stock, and I had this exact conversation with the older ones before they passed. My kin stopped mispronouncing it almost immediately upon arrival, mostly because they knew frigging stupid it sounded.

And unless you believe the campfire legends, Tupac is as dead as Tom Joad.
