I really am not sure, at this stage, Californians have much to brag about; maybe in a few years it will be different. Oh and what is the unemployment rate in California right now?

I am certainly not here to blast California, but I think it is important to not take everything at face value without further research.

The CA UR is slightly below AR's rate one year ago. Map The national tend is good and CA's rate is outpacing the nation at-large. Get happy. Or not.

nmnita: you really (no, seriously, really) need to read the links before you "open mouth and insert foot".

The LA Times reports that California leads the nation. I simply paraphrased their statement. And, as I said, you need only read the article to understand the statement.

OTH: if you like the taste of toe jam, what the hell.

Frustrating, ain't it? One day you hear Toyota is moving, and you celebrate news of exodus. Next day you read about more and more droves of expansion coming in to fill the spaces left. And fill. And fill. And fill. *choke*

It's news like this that opens the debate about whether economic development is inherently a Good Thing, no matter what, and the whole Small Is Beautiful thesis.

Thanks for noticing, Ruth. Here's the thing: growing is important, for a time. After a point, however, it becomes disease. The entire planet is now about 6 billion people diseased. Nice folks, for the most part. But --

California? Easily 15 million over limit.
Probably 20 million.
Again, nice folks mostly. But --

Yeah, I think I've posted this before, but I remember when back in the 80's, CA natives, the older generations, were saying the Bay Area was "full", no more room.

*sigh*

Population has fully doubled since Uncle Sam sent me first to California. It wasn't exactly empty back then either.

Yep. Wall to wall people from border to border. Spread the word. There are no wide open spaces or countryside left in the entire state of California. sigh.

Tulemutt & Ruth:

The growth problem isn't as bad as looks on the surface: the reason California's economy/population is growing is because the other states nearby are so terribly managed. It's the same reason why densely-populated countries like France are desirable destinations and sparsely populated places like Somalia are not.

You should tell this to those who constantly come here and whine about CA being poorly managed. Surely it can't be better than these other states you mentioned could it?
