Got a call today from the gentleman I interviewed with.

Despite submitting a drug and background check, paying for me to break my lease, paying for my relocation fees, and creating a job description just for me, it appears that they cannot hire me. I am furious and feel like they completely wasted my time. I moved across the country thinking I had a firm offer in hand, and what happens? Nothing. I completely wrecked my savings account to live in San Jose for a month waiting to go to work, and then THIS happens?

Thankfully not all is lost. As I mentioned, I moved here with a good friend of mine who has secured me an interview with her company next week, although at a different branch. The job isn't really glorious, but the salary is decent and it will pay the bills. If I get it, then it will just be something to pay the bills until I find something in my field in the area. I've never had to ask my parents for money and I never could bring myself to. I was fortunate enough to grow up very wealthy, and I have always made a promise to myself to stay humble and work to earn things and not have them given to me. In this case, my parents have been very understanding and will be helping me out until I can find something.

Thanks for everything guys, I'll keep everyone posted.

You learned a very valuable lesson: NEVER move to one of the most expensive areas in the country without signing official hiring paperwork before you break a lease. Good thing you have a backup plan, or wealthy parents to bail you out if that fails too, but jeez.

No kidding...I just figured with all that money they invested in me, I was a lock for the job. Got my drug test done, background check done, they paid for me to break my lease, paid for my relocation fees and everything...Oh well, you're right, lesson learned.

On the bright side, I had my interview with my roommate's company today and it appears that they're going to hire me on. I'll actually be making fairly decent money, or enough to live comfortably, but it's not in the field I wanted.

Still feel lucky just to be in this position.
I wanted to move to California, and I did it.
