I lived out my first eight years in California and I tell you, I do not miss the hot and rainless, relentlessly sunny six month long summers in the East Bay. The truth is that the idealized Californian climate only exists right along the strands of Southern California. You go even ten miles inland and you encounter a climate that is overwhelmingly arid and hot for half the year, sometimes all year.

So, what's your ideal climate? And where did you find it?

I'd say somewhere like Boston or Toronto. Four seasons and not too much summer. Sweden would be great too.

Did it ever occur to you that you were in the wrong part of CA? Did you really think that all of CA was like a desert environment half the year?

When they talk about the ideal climate, they're not talking about SoCal, with the possible exception of the narrow coastal strip.

You should read up on Sweden. Even Swedes hate it, except for the 3 months of summer. And some even complain about that, that in the more northerly parts of the country it's not warm enough (it's like the Bay Area up there--perfect, IMO).

i kind of agree. Southern California climate when you get past ten miles from the beach tends to be dry and for at least four months of the year, very hot. It's kind of boring. March through June is nice though.

I love seasonal weather...no im not talking a foot of snow and -10 degrees, just seasonal.

Not even just Southern California, even most of Northern California outside of the mountains is very arid and hot for half the year. Ukiah summers are worse than summers in a lot of LA neighborhoods.

If Swedes had to deal with a real summer of frequent 100F+ temps a lot of them would probably be more grateful for the climate they had. A Swedish summer sounds awesome. Average high of 68F is my kind of summer.
