Im wondering if San Francisco has people who are into automotive performance?

I really want to live there and open a tuning shop there.

I know l.a and San Diego have a sprawling car scene but how much better is it than San Francisco's?

You may want to look into the Sonoma Raceway. It's north of San Francisco.

Absolutely. You can check out a white Prius, a silver Prius, a black Prius, a blue Prius, or a green Prius. Sometimes you'll have a rebel that shows up proudly showing off his or hers Insight.

It's actually a very impressive lineup.

NorCal generally has a fair bit of car and motorcycle culture going on, but it mostly tends to be pretty spread out and farther from San Francisco proper, where real estate (and things like garages!) are a lot more expensive. But as soon as you get away from the urban areas, most 'burbs and even most small towns up here usually have a bunch of local enthusiasts.

Hope you have a BIG chunk of change for that plan OP.

Of course there is a large car culture here in NorCal.

I'd say in the inner East Bay and the South Bay, car culture is alive and well. Oakland is known for its sideshows (which I think are illegal and stupid by the way) and San Jose has a pretty big street-racing/cruising scene as well. There are plenty of car enthusiasts throughout the Bay Area, but maybe not so much in SF itself because it's not so much of a car-oriented city.

There are a lot of smaller car shows, organized locally in the East Bay and South Bay. For example, there's an informal one in Downtown Pleasanton, on the weekend.

I have found that the interest here is more about 60-70's muscle cars, where SoCal is more about Hispanic "lowrider" culture and Asian mini-racers.

Lowriders and "rice rockets" (in common parlance) are very much a part of the Bay Area culture, just apart from the fifty-something weekend warriors and their classic hot rods.

i would say yes, not sure about san fran specifically but NorCal people love cars from what i've seen in BMW forums and the like. They are pretty cray too with some of their mods.

Northern California is almost as car crazy as Southern California. San Francisco specifically, probably not, but definitely the rest of the Bay Area and North State is (Sonoma Raceway, Laguna Seca, Altamont and numerous smaller ones).
