Been there, tried that, doesn't work.

Takes a big fat slap in the collective face of a public drunk with indulgent destructive convenience to even suggest their insistence on such might have deleterious effects.

So...got bags in the trunk, got bags in the backpack. Sky has yet to fall.

Really. So let's give up on the whole idea of the plastic bag ban being repealed...it's not going to happen.

No. It's Obama's fault. Let's start impeachment and lawsuit. The plastic bag ban will fall with the whole deck of cards. And our nation will restore to the full glory of yesteryear.

All with me say "Aye!"

Gawd---the whining about it. It's not the hardship that people make of it. I just keep a bunch of reusable bags in my cars.

Ireland was one of the first countries to adopt this plastic bag ban. They had a terrible litter problem and the bags would get caught in the waterways, rivers, lakes, all over the roadsides, etc. Most other European countries also adopted this. I learned to live with it when I lived there---really not a big deal. Sure I sometimes forgot to bring them initially, but after some change it habits and thought, I started keeping a large stash in the car.

Guess what? The cashiers don't bag your groceries either (like Pac N Save)---you generally do it yourself (they'll help the elderly, however) . Oh, the horror. Also, you must pay a euro to use the shopping carts. It forces lazy folks to bring them back to the "trolley bay" so they can retrieve their euro and discourages idiots from stealing them. Nobody gives a cra*. So many more pressing and dire issues in this world than having to pay or bring your own.

Americans just can't seem handle the smallest of changes to their lifestyle---such whiners and complainers over every little non-issue that forces them to think a tad more.

PS...it's not mandatory to even use ANY bags at all when making small purchases--just put them in the cart and put your items in your car ----imagine that.

Danged libruls sending us all back into caves!

Actually, wouldn't it be kind of cool if GOP-endorsed canvas bags started being used by shoppers in your local grocery store? Let the cross-pollination experiment commence!

The fault lies with the manufacturers, not consumers and not the government. If companies would simply stop manufacturing bags that aren't biodegradable, the choice would be removed. It's like light bulbs. Eventually, you won't be able to find one incandescent bulb on a store shelf. Take away the choices. Problem solved.

You should probably read this short article on that---sounds great, but in reality--

This plastic bag ban is an OUTRAGE indeed! I mean, how terrible of an inconvenience it is to have to use paper! I am being forced to live like a savage. Because of this, my girlfriend and I have a basket of stored paper bags that is just wasting space at home. Who do you think is going to pay for that space?? That's right, me!

When I go to the grocery store, I am now forced to reuse one of those paper bags or take one from the few bags I keep in the trunk of my car. Annoyed level x 3. And when I forget a bag, I have to pay $.10 extra cents for a new bag. Outrageous! Annoyed level x 5.

And lets not forgot those handmade craft bags that my girlfriend bought. They look like something only a hippie ******* would use. Annoyed level x 6.

And all for what? For our "environment"? The ocean? Sounds like more hippie liberal talk. Freedom means having the right to reuse a plastic bag to pick up my dog's crap and slinging it into the ocean.

Oh I almost forgot... Thanks a lot Obama!

I know a lot of people who are ordering a case of plastic bags identical to those used by markets, to keep in the car and take a few in when they shop. I doubt there will be much reduction in plastic bag use once that catches on.

Good article, clongil. Yes, it makes no sense to continue manufacturing anything made of plastic since it's all petroleum based and petro doesn't die. It would appear that plastic bags are as bad as Styrofoam. Paper is the only thing that I know of that degrades over time. But, if we go back to paper bags, folks will complain about trees being cut down to produce them. It's just a no win situation.
