Hello All, I made up my mind that I am gonna surf for the first time ever in my life during this Christmas long week.I am looking at a place some where in California, any suggestions/advise would be greatly appreciated.

What I am looking for

1. The warmest water in Cali during that time of year.
2. Surf ideal for a beginner( I dont wanna die any time soon )
3. Good surf schools

Get a good wet suit. The water in December is cold...anywhere in CA. I would go for Newport Beach or Huntington Beach. More likely to find suitable waves in December. It is actually easier to learn with some mid sized surf. Nobody is going to learn on small stuff.

The water off of San Diego is still 70 degrees but that may be unprecedented for November. Usually by Christmas it's under 60, even down here but may not get that cold this year.

Stay south for the best chance of good weather in December. I second Huntington Beach and the wet suit. There is no such thing as warm water in California in winter. It barely gets warm in the summer! The weather might be nice and clear, or it might be gloomy and raining (which I hope it is--not for your sake of course, but because we need it) and then you probably won't be going out at all because storm surf is trash for surfing.

Honestly if I were you, I'd spend a little more money and go to Hawaii instead. They have good surf, a huge variety of beaches, warm water, and guarateed warm air temperatures in December.

really, Dec water temps are not good for swimming, although maybe this year it may be different (i doubt it), as many LA/OC beaches are still in the 70s.

best place to catch waves is the wedge and HB, warmest waters are off Newport.
