NoMoreSnow, your journey from where you were to Redding and now to the redwood coast has been a fascinating one to see play out. If I remember correctly you moved to Redding last November and your excitement over the weather could hardly be contained, but several folks including me told you to just wait for summer and the heat but you were just too flushed with excitement from the move to realize what we meant. The really sad thing is that this summer in Redding was actually fairly mild compared to the last few summers so I'd hate to think how miserable you'd be during a bad one

I really hope you enjoy Crescent City. I personally would have a hard time living there due to its small size and isolation, and it's just a touch too cool and foggy for my tastes, but let me tell you that your first summer there will be pure bliss compared to the garbage of the Sacramento Valley.

LOL, well, you are right. I moved here Nov 4th and the weather then was like it is now here, finally - cool and sunny. Bliss. My biggest worry then was whether or not I'd have to deal with snow here.

We did get some snow last year, but it lasted maybe a week. Very small amount. And I was still quite happy with the weather here.

Then, came the summer! I had a long conversation with an old friend tonight, who lived in Davis the same time I did. We met at work while both living in Davis. When I explained to her the high temps here, she said, Wow! That's even worse than Davis! And then we discussed how the Davis/Sacto area has the evening delta breezes. We get no evening cool down here in Redding. I had expected that there would at least be a cool down in the evening, but not so. It literally won't cool down here until 3 am? Very late, anyway. So, there's no comfortable evening stroll here, like you'd at least get in the Sacto Valley.

No, CC won't be perfect either. In a perfect world, I'd be able to afford to live in the SF Bay Area, in a pleasant neighborhood. I qualify it like that, because there is probably a ghetto I could afford to live in, but no thanks.

I had thought I'd rather have the heat, and have more sunny days. But, I'm going to do my best to be positive about cloudy weather in CC. I'll ask myself, would you rather be in 117 degree weather in Redding? Or 100 degrees? Or 90 degrees? Or even 80 degrees? No. Give me 60 degrees and a sweater. Sounds like heaven.

And no snow! Wahoo!

Default Redding can't be so bad...

You ain't seen nuttin' yet. Try moving to Central Texas. The drought seems to have ended, and it has rained here nearly every day all winter and spring. I will say that I am very fortunate to not be in a flood as many Texas towns are at this time, thank goodness!! But when the sun does peep out and you go outside to what is expected to be a gorgeous day, you immediately collapse due to the insanely humid heat. Your eyeballs fog up and your car is dripping inside it. Eggs don't fry on the sidewalk - they poach. 100 degrees here will literally make your knees buckle. For 6 months of the year, not just a few days or weeks of over 100 like NorCal. I lived in and loved Ukiah and would almost consider Redding area if not for the crime and seeming despair from all the posts I have been reading. Dying to go back to NorCal somewhere!
Not even going to the beach can save you here in Texas; you will still either fry and smother on an oil slick or be attacked by swarms of spiny alien seaweed. Yeah speakin' of escaping to the beach... I've been to NorCal Beaches... ohhh the amazing aqua green hue of a big wave, the clean pristine sand, the tide pools, treasure hunting for agates and sea glass, pure perfection even if the water is too cold to swim. Now picture southern Gulf beaches that have been destroyed by Big Oil Republicretins...(and this part I am not exaggerating or being funnyhaha)... muddy water, filthy oily sand, seaweed everywhere, horizon totally lined with oil platforms, don't dare eat the contaminated seafood, and for godsake do NOT get a mouthful of that nasty water in your mouth. You really can taste the difference. I wanna go hoooome!!!!!!

Ah, yes humidity and heat combined = total misery. I lived in the Nashville area for 5 years. Hated the weather.

But, I must clarify something. Redding does have 100+ degrees for 5 months of the year. I kept track. From mid-May to mid-October, I used my air conditioning. It was either just under 100 degrees, or up to 117 degrees, that entire time. And of course, the months just preceding and just following the 100 degree days, are not exactly cool either.

So, nope it isn't humid. It's so dry your nose cracks and bleeds inside. It feels like it's burning your nostrils when you breathe at 117 degrees, let me tell you.

But, dry or wet, 100 degrees is hot. And it does not cool down at night. Not until around 3 a.m. And then by 10 a.m. it's back into the 90's and by 11 a.m. it's 100 degrees again. So, if you want to be comfortable outside, your window is 3 a.m. to about 8 a.m.

But, you might love it way up here in the boonies on the northern coast where I escaped. The weather is fairly severe, but it's never too hot and it don't snow :-)

You're likelier to get a referral to a therapist from Californians than sympathy for living in TX.
