I've heard before that you can't get a good bratwurst in California, but that's simply an urban myth. You can get them at supermarkets and fry them up yourself, or you can go to one of those primo sausage stands and pay about $10 for one.

But there is no lutefisk in Santa Barbara, never has been and never will be. Nor is there much in the way of ice hockey with its accompanying frostbite and massive bruises, I'm guessing. Nor raking the autumn leaves for hours into huge piles, and then having a gigantic gust of wind blow them all over the yard again. And you will also miss out on tobogganing in the winter snow.

It's a quality of life issue, cheap brats vs bugs, fish half-dissolved by lye vs a colorful assortment of fresh local vegetables all year round ..... thickly treed forests and impenetrable brush filled with Lyme diseased ticks, vs a desert landscape filled with Mexican pharmaceutical enterprises ..... life in well-maintained, inexpensive apartments vs life lived under a freeway bridge. Deciding between the two areas can rend a man's heart, mind, and soul. And in the end, it may come down to something as simple as a green flash from the setting sun, or the entrancing strut of the local ****.

Some day I hope to visit Santa Barbara, pushing my van into the center of town, gawking at the precious little shops filled with gewgaws and gimcracks. Some day I may live in Santa Barbara.

Limiting your life experiences is foolish in my view, and you should try and do what you desire, you will never regret attempting new adventures, but you will regret being to timid to follow your desires.
I agree 1000%! Hubby and I moved from NE OH to OC over 20 years ago when I was 19 and he was 21. We didn't even know where we were going. We did have about $8,000 between the two of us at that time, but didn't have jobs yet or a place to live. As long as one wants to and is able to work, there are jobs, there are apartments, etc.

We are thinking of moving to CA also. We have friends that moved out to Temecula from WI and they love it. The money is all comparable. Where we live now we can buy a house for the same price in wine country. There are 4 families that have moved there and they say they wished they would have made the move sooner. They love it out there. Check out Craigslist.com. You can find housing or trades or jobs from that web site. We are looking to trade our house in WI for a house in Temecula. I don't think as a young person with no kids you would have to worry about surviving. Do it before you have kids if you ever want to live there. Good luck.
