You know, it's interesting that Russia's never passed a law like that.

I'm Republican and voted for Jerry Brown. Kashkari didn't seem to have anything going for him. Before he got seriously in the running he gave some speeches that were.....weird. After that, I think somebody was guiding him.

I hope that we get an actual good Republican candidate for 2018. The last three have been horrible--and I'm including Arnie in that.

Didn't California reach record low unemployment under Arnold? I mean, you can't blame the Great Recession on him.

Just for curious, what kinda Republican positions do you think might be electable in this state (meaning would attract both libs and most conservs, without being too 'ideological'… if all that's even possible)?

Especially re: 'hot button' issues like water rights, gay marriage, abortion, health care, mass transit, marijuana, immigration, social services, minimum wage, taxes & possible changes to prop 13, dealing with unions & pensions (state employees, teachers, police & prisons), etc.? 'Cuz I really don't see a lot of 'wiggle room' available on any of those (right or left)!

Prop 13 benefits all home owners. Not sure why anyone would want to change that.

I think Kashkari has an excellent chance of winning an election for Congress or for a lower state office. Even people who didn't vote for him generally had a favorable view of him. However, he had no chance against a popular, highly regarded incumbent. He might even have a chance against Boxer in 2016. For governor, however, I'd think the GOP would want to give someone else a try. (I voted for Kashkari albeit knowing that Brown would win, and not having a real problem with Brown.)

Yeah, we all know it's a "sacred cow" and all that, but there are still loopholes that have nothing to do with "homeowners".

For example even the Howard Jarvis folks support clamping down on companies that are using a corporate ownership maneuver to exploit Prop 13 and avoid higher property taxes whenever they buy commercial real estate. That ain't what it was intended for.

CA has become a liberal paradise and Democrats just love to pander to the Latinos to get their votes. Middle class and people with money (majority Republicans) are moving out of CA. You will probably never see another Republican governor in CA.

The moneyed people aren't the ones leaving - it's middle class, working class, and poor people who are leaving.

A gay friendly and weed friendly GOP candidate could very well be governor.
