The more deep "into the Heartland" you get, you hope that it gets better than what you've already passed. It doesn't. Hopes you have for these far out places get diminished upon your arrival, and ultimately you'll feel.....underwhelmed. They are every bit as boring as advertised, or imagined.

First off, it won't. I
lived there and my soul is still quite intact, thank you. I've also lived for a year and a half in Des Moines, Iowa and outside of that city its a pretty featureless, boring place. Instead of driving 90 minutes to get to the coast or 45 minutes to get to the mountains from Merced you're driving a day and a half to get to them from Iowa.
