I currently live in the L.A. Area of Southern California and have been looking to move up north for a while now. I'm 20 and moving on my own, so I'm looking for places with cheap apartments. I'm not too picky, I'd prefer a colder climate, maybe snow, and just some place that's relatively safe. I'm not at all familiar with the area, so if someone could name off some nice cities that would be a good fit for me, I'd appreciate it!

Were you planning on seeking employment? Do you have job skills? We have no idea what would be a good fit for you without more info.

"Cheap apartments" and "California" is an oxymoron. However, if you don't mind colder weather, the north of NorCal would be good. The towns on the north Coast. Arcata has a young population, as it's a college town, though housing is relatively expensive there. Snow? Try South Lake Tahoe. You'll probably have to share a place, wherever you go. Fort Bragg is nice. A little more affordable than many places.

Define cheap

Do you need to work?

Any town worth living in such as Chico my favorite, you're going to have issues with finding decent full-time employment unless your have an RN license.

The best bargain in CA is Sacramento, it's also a huge area. I'd start from Sacarmento itself and expand outward to the Greater Sacramento Area like Davis, Roseville, Auburn, Elk Grove, Folsom, Grass Valley, etc.
