Classic orographic event. Some southwest facing slopes near the coast got it, the rest got a lot less.

This was much needed rain but we are far, far away from breaking the drought. And the ridge is back until at least Presidents' Day. Maybe more than that.

The tricky thing about PDO is, ENSO can overwrite the index for short periods of time.

The actual SST pattern in the NE Pac is still a negative PDO pattern, especially if you disregard the "La Nada" warm SSTs off of CA (now diminishing rapidly).

We got 5" out of that blast. A couple of miles away, a friend had an 8" deep wading pool that got blown onto the ground and filled up past overflowing! I've seen it rain hard in the midwest and in the Sierra, but this was right up there with them. Even got one inch in one hour during the heaviest part. Overtopped all my gutters around the house too.

Um, yeah. You and so many others keep sayin this. Cheesus, talk about the age of instant gratification or nothing measures up Of course a few hard rains haven't broken the four year drought. Tremendous grasp of the obvious. But how can anyone in their right mind expect its deficits might be erased in one season?

LOL, I don't care that much. But, I might have engaged in your point, if I was reading actual words...

That post was like listening to cop speak on the radio.
