I mostly know the economy and the market in Santa Maria, I don't know as much for Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo.

What industries are growing in each city?

What industries are already big in each as in which has more jobs in certain areas?

From what I know about San Luis Obispo, there are three 3 big tech companies-Shopatron, Mindbody, and Amazon. I also know there are alot of engineering jobs but I don't know which companies employ the most other than PG&E. I know there are jobs for doctors, attorneys, and government works, but not nearly as much as in Santa Maria due to less demand because of a smaller population to serve.

I can't speak for Santa Cruz, but I would guess it has a larger economy because it's a larger area and is closer to San Jose.

Santa Maria has a little bit of everything, but a large concentration in agriculture jobs. There are some engineering firms like DenMat, Zodiac, and some others. There is more than enough where I can't name them all.

Santa Cruz does not have a great job market. If you can get a job at the university there, or with the city or country, that would be great. Otherwise, everything is known to not pay very well there, and there just aren't a lot of jobs. You'd probably have to drive to San Jose for decent work. My daughter did just that for many years - lived in Santa Cruz and worked in San Jose/Sunnyvale.

Depending on what your line of work is, you might have better luck in Monterey.

I don't know about the other areas.

Yes, I second this about Santa Cruz. A lot of people who live there commute to Silicon Valley for work. The housing costs there are very high and the housing stock is not particularly attractive, either.
