We are going on a ladies getaway for relaxation. Which city would you recommend, pismo or Cayucos?

Avila Beach. Or better yet, Carmel.

I would definitely pick Cayucos over Pismo if you want relaxation. Have you been to either place? What exactly do you want to do besides relax? A much better place, IMO, for relaxing, shopping, eating, wine tasting, etc. is Cambria. Avila would probably be #2 on the list in this area. None of these are "warm" beaches, if that's what you're looking for.

I just noticed your name...if you're looking for a Jersey-like beach area, definitely go for Pismo.

Cayucos and Cambria is pretty boring. Avila and Pismo definitely have more going on for them. Pismo has the most though from beach volleyball, an outlet mall, bowling alley, billiards, a couple bars, and the monarch butterfly grove.

Neither. The answer is always Carpinteria. Worlds safest beach, two breweries and the Palms. Ride the train into Santa Barbara for evening fun too.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I should've consulted this forum a few months ago before I booked the Cayucos rental. It's too late to cancel now. We will just have to visit pismo and the other places mentioned during our stay. I opted for Cayucos because we really wanted a beach front property and there weren't as many in Pismo... Didn't realize we would be sacrificing excitement in terms of culture and things to do.

Big time. Cayucos is like 20 minutes from SLO and a half hour from Paso Robles.

You said you wanted relaxation but now you want excitement? What exactly are you looking to do and what is your age group? There is plenty to do not far from Cayucos but you have to tell us what you are looking for so we can make suggestions.

We are a group of moms and daughters, ranging in age from 35-60. While we are wanting to engage in relaxation, we like the idea of having activities around us as options. We will likely cook a lot ourselves, but will elect to eat out a couple times. We are all very flexible and more interested in day time activities than night life. We enjoy shopping, people watching, light hiking, art walks, and sight seeing.
