Wow, I was just looking at this...

State Totals: Vintage 2014 - U.S Census Bureau

Was looking at the 2013-2014 components of population change for all the states. It says that in the last year of data California lost 32,090 people due to domestic migration. This is a far cry compared to like 10 years ago. Compare to 2005-2006 when California lost 287,684 people to domestic migration...

State Totals: Vintage 2006 - U.S Census Bureau

So I searched on that census website from the year 2000 to see California's domestic migration patterns.

CA Domestic Migration
2000-2001: 69,499 people lost
2001-2002: 108,595 people lost
2002-2003: 94,861 people lost
2003-2004: 144,462 people lost
2004-2005: 239,417 people lost
2005-2006: 287,684 people lost
2006-2007: 263,035 people lost
2007-2008: 144,061 people lost
2008-2009: 98,798 people lost
2009-2010: 74,741 people lost
2010-2011: 50,684 people lost
2011-2012: 44,541 people lost
2012-2013: 49,259 people lost
2013-2014: 32,090 people lost

Is California becoming the Golden State it once was again?

We closed most of the dealerships. Not enough business from out-goers but still enough in-comers to keep some doors open.

I'm still curious about these numbers as well, I wonder how long they will last?

The majority were middle and upper middle income who could afford to leave. Now fewer can find a job elsewhere and cover the cost of a move. It is becoming a bit less than Golden, more like a dry brown.

Note a post above about water and housing. It s creating a problem that is not likely to be solved, wishful thinking or not. What will CA do for water next year if there is not a huge amount of rain (Captured and available) and snow? Where will the water come from for new births additions to the population the bit of in migration that does occur, between which the population increases and needs more resources?

The real numbers are the rates of middle and high income earners leaving while being replaced with low or no income earners. The state is losing some of the already small tax base.

and of course, is this not a count via census, which likely does not fully capture illegal immigration, and the associated births, of which there are copious amounts of both?

I don't trust the numbers.

This is about out-migration from California. What does illegal immigration have to do with it? Illegals moving out of California? How do we track that stuff? Why do you care? Or are you one of those yokels who yell out ILLEGAL this ILLEGAL that at anything without thinking first?

Is your nickname Mr Pessimism? Did you predict California's demise during our electricity crisis in the 90s?
