We are moving to Livermore CA from NewYork. We have 2kids 7 & 1 year old. Can any one recommend how the schools are in Livermore . Is it a good town to raise family?

You should try posting this in the SF-Oakland forum for more local responses. I can't comment on the schools, but there are many school ratings websites where you can look up the information for yourself.

I can tell you that Livermore is a nice family-oriented community low crime and it borders other nice family-oriented communities. It does get hot in the summer but personally I like warm weather so it doesn't bother me. The downtown area has been revitalized over recent years and is a pretty nice place. The Livermore area is also home to a scenic wine-growing region with many vineyards. Livermore is somewhat far removed from the rest of the Bay Area and is a little bit of a trek to get to places like San Francisco or to the coast. It's closer to the central valley though if you need to go that way for any reason.

Why would you leave upstate New York for a grassland-desert environment? The taxes are the same, but the houses are cheaper in upstate at least.
