Hello all!

I am from Delaware and I have a Bachelor's degree in marketing. Delaware has very poor career opportunities, especially in marketing, and I need to get out of here to pursue my dreams. After doing research, it looks like California is in high demand in the marketing field. I would LOVE to snag a job in Cali, however, my question to you all is, do employers in Cali offer phone interviews to candidates who do not reside in the area, better yet, people who live across the country? Can I be selected without having to be face to face with an employer?

I would love to hear from people who were in this type of situation. I am all ears!

Your school didn't give internship opportunities while you were going to school? Did you know it's very difficult to stand a chance against master degree and double major folk? You do realize California has high unemployment rates and extremely high cost of living, right?

A lot of people here don't like the term "Cali". It's considered to be for kids.

I don't think your prospects are going to be any better in CA for this field.

No many only have Bachelor's Degrees, with that degree OP can very well find a marketing job. There are
Tons of them here in Los Angeles, each with their own specialty.

OP why not look up some of them and call and discuss it with them?

Delaware and California are not comparable, so I think your comment is error.

I don't like giving people false hope.

There are a number of colleges in California that already churn out numerous of marketing and public relations grads each year.

In terms of new grads to pull from:

112 Community College campuses
23 California State University campuses
10 University of Cal campuses

Let’s not forget the countless number of private colleges in California.

I just don't know why someone would give up a tax rate of 6.6% for 20%. The pay from both places is identical except the houses are 3X cheaper and the property tax assessments are so low that the property tax is smaller than even the cheapest modular homes in California.

what are you talking about? The only difference in taxes between Delaware and California that I can see is that Delaware doesn't have sales tax, instead they have a gross receipts tax which is certainly passed on to purchasers. There is property tax of about 1.38% (higher in some jurisdictions) Income tax and various state and local fees. If you are arguing that real estate is higher in California than in Delaware that's fine but that's how the 'free market' works, you know supply and demand

Gross Receipts Taxes

Quote:
Business and occupational gross receipts tax rates range from 0.1037% to 2.0736%
I am terribly mortified that consumers in Delaware must pay a sales tax of 2.07% and 6.6% income tax. Let's see what the property tax is when we compare California and Delaware to see if what you said holds up underwater.

Delaware (2000+ sqft, 1980+ age, 4+ Beds 2+ Baths)

186 Stoney Dr, Dover, DE 19904 is For Sale | Zillow

Price: $189,000, Assessed Value: $64,500, Property Tax: $1,462

26 Mccoy St, Milford, DE 19963 is For Sale | Zillow

Price: $169,000, Assessed Value: $13,900, Property Tax: $583

244 Morgans Choice Rd, Camden Wyoming, DE 19934 is For Sale | Zillow

Price: $199,900, Assessed Value: $54,000, Property Tax: $926

California (2000+ sqft, 1980+ age, 4+ Beds 2+ Baths)

728 Parkston Ct, Modesto, CA 95357 is For Sale | Zillow

Price: $249,000, Assessed Value: $205,270, Property Tax: $2,691

771 Flower Ash Ln, Redding, CA 96003 is For Sale | Zillow

Price: $230,000, Assessed Value: $128,750, Property Tax: $1,384

901 Arlene Ct, Yreka, CA 96097 is For Sale | Zillow

Price: $249,000, Assessed Value: $245,000, Property Tax: $2,696

Show me ONE place in California where you can pay less than $600 a year in property taxes, that isn't modular, a condo, or a townhouse with those specifications.
