I joined CD in 2009, and never had the opportunity to read this post originally. Even though it's a few years old, I've learned a lot about smaller California towns from it. I'm glad someone dug it up.

We really like all the helpful information, the nostalgic stories, and the very lively, knowledgeable, entertaining characters who have so generously contributed to these threads over the years. It's like reading a history book of California as it is happening... A good thing to be doing as you meander throughout California, mentally or physically, in search of the place that gives you the most comfort and happiness.
