I have an education, life experience, and a strong work ethic. As for the water issues, it's an el niño year. Considering my state exited a 5 year drought in less than a month, I'm sure everything will be fine in Cali come winter.
Make sure to say "Cali" on a regular basis when you get here. It's fun to watch the native reactions.

I don't really see people reacting to calling it "Cali" in real life. On this forum, there are a few that insist that it bothers Californians (and some of those don't even live here) but I just don't see it. Same with Frisco for San Francisco. It seems most old-timers, of which I qualify, will always use California and San Francisco but certainly not bothered by what others call it. Younger people tend to abbreviate everything more. I just don't see anyone having a problem with that

In my opinion, as a native Northern CA gal, I don't like LA. Besides the traffic, etc., my experiences have been that the people are rude as a rule, including desk clerks at hotels and waiters, etc.

I vote for San Diego!

And don't worry about water. We always find a way to survive here.

Oh, and people in SoCal don't seem to mind the "Cali" reference so much as us Northerners do. But, honestly, I'm over it. I think it's a new slang we need to get used to.

I think the post-1990 crowd says "Cali" a lot actually. It seems like the natives have reclaimed it.

As long as you have a job lined up, go for it! My wife and I moved from Washington State to St. Helena (Napa Valley) with a job lined up and a 9 month old child a few years ago. It was extremely challenging in our situation especially with the cost of living and only one income. But if you have the determination, do it. You won't regret the experience.
