Damn commies.
I used to LOVE jury duty. Sorry, boss-of-the-job-I-hate, guess you'll just have to get that other secretary to actually do some work other than paint her nails for five days. It was a paid vacation for me LOL.

But, if you just really don't want to do it, just answer like a crazy person to their questions about whatever the trial is about. You should be able to figure out what they want, then just be the opposite. Just be someone neither side would want on the jury, and one of them should use one of their challenges to get you off the jury. Both sides have a number of challenges they can use up to kick people off the jury. Figure out how to be one of them, and you're off the jury.

I thought there was a substantual fine for non jury service. I heard on the radio that 30% called for jury duty don't show up. Are they paying the fine?

I was called for jury duty in CA (Riverside County) went to the meeting and was not chosen as many were not needed for a jury. They call a lot and chose a few and then reduce that number during questioning about a particular trial. That was the first time in a span of about 40 years that I could qualify.

People who try to wrangle out of jury duty are scum. It's a civic duty. Do it!

Whoa! How'd we get so far off topic?

LOL, good question!

We should start another thread about jury duty. It's an interesting topic. Juries are like homeowner's associations. They have a lot of power, and don't need to have a clue about what they're doing. Frightening really, if you've ever been on one and seen 12 people in action, most if not all whom know absolutely nothing about law, and normally have some personal agenda - like going home, or punishing a potentially innocent person to make an example - both of which I personally experienced in the jury I served with.

Everyone but me was willing to just convict someone without decent proof of her guilt (stealing from a department store) because they wanted to prove a point or just go home. I hope I never have to put my life in the hands of 12 jury members. Just as I will never again (even if I could afford it) deal with a homeowner's association again in my life!

Yep, totally off topic now LOL.

I will not argue with the Mutt about Monsanto... I will not argue with the Mutt about Monsanto....

But, no kidding on juries!!! They are frightening and utterly fascinating at the same time. After experiencing one, I realized that the whole romantic notion about having a jury of my "peers" looking out for my best interests - is insane. And really scary.

Don't you have the right to have the trial decided by a judge if you don't trust juries?

What was the topic anyway?
