I think there's a lot more to this than meets the eye. There's just too many things about this drought that stink to high heaven. I guess the one part that makes sense is: it stinks. Gov Brown says 'brown is the new green.' A turd stinks. A turd is brown. Therefore, Gov Brown is a turd.

Some other discussions I've started on this subject:

The Poor, Poor California Farmers

More Profligate Water Waste-By A Farmer

Getting Hosed By The Drought

Water-We Got Ours. But Too Bad For You (related to 'poor farmers')

Recall Jerry Brown?

The question is

20% CA water is used by city people
80% CA water is used by farmers.

It really does not matter how city people use/waste the water. It does matter how farmers make money with our water.
Totally agree, yet another example in the endless list of blue areas subsidizing red areas for useless crap.

And they have the gall to complain about taxes when they themselves are the real parasites.

You realize that there are ideological partisans at work on the internet who pose as liberals / conservatives in grotesque caricatures just to make the target political community look stupid / insane / dangerous / bigoted / etc? Yes, there are liberals who pose as unbelievably ignorant boneheaded tea-party conservatives just to create an illusionary character stereotype. Up to the discerning individual to recognize the parody when it appears repeatedly.

No. Farmers do not use 80%. The figures are closer to about 43% for farmers, 11% for urban and business, and 46% remains in critical environmental flow.

And no, it's not "our" water the farmers are using. If they have prior legal rights to it (which they do in varying degrees and priorities) it's their water. Whether you and I like it or not.

Don't confuse the ignorant liberal/conservative posters with ... reality.

Are you really going to battle for corporate claims on water under our feet, accumulated over centuries? That those claims should remain unchallenged until the inevitable collapse of the aquifers? Please say no.
