Orange County, CA is #10.

It is very pretty here , something that is missed by some nearsighted travelers who never venture beyond the congested freeways, and dismiss OC as nothing but urban sprawl, but this extremely high ranking surprises even me.

It shouldn't. The views of the Santa Ana mountains from Aliso Viejo always catch me off guard. Especially around sunset. They seem very prominent from certain angles.

Agree. There are also some amazingly striking winter views of the snow-capped mountains while the temps down here are at about 65-70.

If you look at their methodology some of the odd results are more understandable. Half of it is climate. And scenery is determined by "topographic variation" and water coverage. I know some areas that have elevation variability but are relatively meh in the scenery department. So you might consider taking these rankings with a boulder of salt.

Having said that there are certainly some California counties that should be near the top. Some in the Sierras and some of the coastal counties. However, as terrific as Ventura County is I wouldn't place it near #1. I would say it's above average but I wouldn't go that far. If the rankings were solely on climate I could see it. The Topa Topa mountains from the coast can be quite scenic especially when they're crowned with snow. But overall there are many counties that exceed Ventura both within California and in other states.

Ha! You're right!

I get confused about which parts of Yosemite are in my county and your county.

Either way, we both live in a great part of the country.

Of no value. I live in a County that makes Ventura County look like a dump. Mind you ventura County has some nice scenery, but not that nice.

I find this a bit sketchy. Who said everyone wants a seasonless, mild climate?

And I don't get why Siskiyou County got something like 264th. It should be in the top 20.

Yavapai County, AZ, home of Sedona, only ended up with 97.
Coconino County, AZ, home of Grand Canyon and Havasupai Falls, only managed a 134!
King County, WA only made it to 160.

Bogus!

This was made by a Californian for Californians. Don't sprain any arms patting yourselves on the back...
