NO the median income data is not CRA$. Look it up for your self, making wild statements, based on your opinion, with out looking up the data is not wise. Of course that attitude is what has gotten California in the fix it is in, and it is NOT going to get better under the current political climate.

By this time next year, I won't be paying taxes to support California's unsustainable political stupidity. Good luck to you, you'll need it down the road.

I've looked up up Ralph. Its complete crap. The median household income in California for 1990 was not $90,214. It was $59,790 61. That's in constant 2009 dollars. Thanks for wasting my time.

Given your insincerity, I think we will survive just fine without you.

That sounds a lot more realistic for 1990!

Thanks for setting out more reliable data. That 90K+ number looked wrong to me.
So adjusted for CPI, the median income has been stable for 10-15 years. I suppose thats not too bad.

I live in Ventura County. Home prices for my neighborhood are approaching the $500,000 mark and families are still finding a way to buy these homes. On the beach homes sell for between $700,000 and $5million or so and yet these homes seem to still find buyers for them. I work in healthcare and most of the clinical staff can make incomes approaching the $100,000 mark. We have many that make more than that. My household income is comfortably over $100,000 and I can see it hitting the $200,000 mark.

I see plenty of people driving high end cars. taking trips, living a nice lifestyle. yes all that could be a debt financed plan for fun but many times I am apt to think that these people have an income that supports their lifestyle. I could be wrong.

Someone mentioned that Michigan is on the list. Last I heard Detroit is in Michigan. I also heard that they have homes no one can give away. Then again I don't profess to know anything about the Detroit area. Maybe it has improved since last year. Maybe it has become a desirable place to live since last year. I am not convinced that I want to trade my endless summer of spending time on the sand for a place that gets cold in the winter.

There are plenty of states that feature folks paranoid about gument. Thing is, their lower or lack of income tax is offset by higher property taxes, so it's generally a wash. But about those scary federales - CA props up those paranoid red states through...guess what...TAXES! Money that goes from here to Washington DC, then miraculously floods the places that profess to hate the big bad ol' gument. Sounds a lot like welfare, doesn't it? Fun to bite the hand that feeds ya, huh?

Soon2bnsurprise: the question is whether it's the same people, or, as in my family's experience, it became obvious that the kids would never be able to afford to live in the city where they grew up unless they went into a high-earning field. There's always some rich person who can afford to buy in the playground cities. But they used to be just... you know... cities. With kids. Culturally a lot of the coast has grown very comfortable with "earn six figures or you're a loser and should just gtfo." God only knows my state right now has its own problems, but fortunately that's not one of them (or I'd have to move again - though I hear from a lot of folks that people are starting to get priced out of the cities here, too.)
