On January 1, Californians may be paying as high as an additional $0.76/gal for gas. The increase will be in addition to some of the highest gas prices in the country. Don't be too anxious this holiday season to spend those windfall gas dollars, or as the pundits would have you believe, your tax cut. The January gas tax increase will raise prices on everything Californians purchase.

I live in the Bay Area and the roads are the worst in the country. I go through so many tires because of all the deep pot holes everywhere, so where are they spending all this money? I love California, but I'm looking forward to moving out in 2016.

I have to agree with you about the roads. The surface condition of the roads has deteriorated in many, many areas of the state except for Sacramento. Drive into Sacramento from 99 or 80 and as soon as you cross the county line a person notices how much better the roads are and there are miles of concrete murals along the side of the highway. Have you been on I 5 going through Stockton? That highway is torn up and full of potholes all the way through town. Drive south on 101 and it's the same way. What about 101 north from the City to Sonoma County. I thought the federal gas tax dollars were suppose to take care of the interstates. I would like to know where these carbon tax dollars are going to go. It finally seems like they've figured out how to tax the air we breath.

If they didn't "tax the air we breath", we would be looking at 70's LA, or industrial China conditions. Car culture has it's price.

Maybe Musk could make an electric train and call it...are you ready for this.....Lionel.

Why are Californians having to pay this carbon tax and residents of other states aren't? Is the carbon tax just another excuse to tax us more?

Wow. A whole $6.92 extra per month on average per car. I hope you can find a way to make it.

It's amazing that the area of the country with some of the most benign weather has the worst roads. None of our major population centers deal with extreme temperatures, snow, road salt, snow plows, etc...yet we have the worst roads in the country.
