Yesterday on my way home from a camping trip in The Sequoia/Kings canyon area, I exited off the 99 just south of Bakersfield to get gas, and on the other side of the local road was an ag field of unknown crops.

I attached a pic. I think these are sweet potatoes. Are sweet potatoes a significant crop in the San Joaquin valley? Can anyone confirm?

Yep, those are sweet potatoes. They raise a fair amount in the San Joaquin Valley (especially Merced County where I used to live), but its not close to be a major crop like tomatoes or alfalfa.
