California subsidizes low-cost auto insurance for both citizens and undocumenteds. The only requirement is a valid driver's license and proof of low income. Proof of citizenship is not required. The state does this through this website: https://www.mylowcostauto.com

Once again, do you have proof of more illegal aliens actually purchasing auto insurance of any type since the illegal alien DL law passed? We are already sadly aware that the tax payer ultimately pays for the cost of illegal immigration but thanks for that additional info.

What coverage does California Low Cost Automobile insurance policy provide?

The program provides affordable, liability only auto insurance that meets the state’s financial responsibility laws.
Basic Liability Policy limits are:
  • $10,000 bodily injury or death per person
  • $20,000 bodily injury or death per accident
  • $3,000 property damage liability per accident
Sounds like if you get hit by an illegal alien who actually bought this low cost, subsidized insurance from the state you're still going to get screwed unless it's a very low damage fender bender accident.

But it is all about the weather and how socially advanced the State is, right?

Who cares if your new BMW is creamed by an illegal, your insurance will pay the balance. less your deductible and of course a raise in rates. But ...hey they can now have a drivers license and maybe even get to vote for more politicians who will .... give them more such goodies.

Well, history is our guide.

There were states that tried to enforce Unconstitutional Jim Crow laws ... federal and federalized troops stepped in a took care of that. It could happen again.

In this a case, a state that is in affront to Federal Immigration Laws may be accused of taunting the Federal Government. That normally does not end well.

But the Fed does not care either.

Get insurance for 1 month, get your license, then stop the insurance. Done all the time.

That's what I would like to know, because I sure haven't heard anything about insurance being required. Not one word on the news about how that works.

Just the issuing of licenses. Doesn't really matter to the drivers whose car gets hit if the person behind now has a license but no car insurance.

The people who I saw on the news admitted to driving around unlicensed for years, one over a decade. I didn't get the feeling they were now going to run out and get insurance.

Its A LOT harder to get away with now, since insurance companies report straight to the DMV when coverage is in place and when it has been cancelled or lapsed in coverage. You then get a nice letter from the DMV stating that if you don't provide proof they will cancel your registration.

Law enforcement is also able to walk right over to the patrol car and see if all is up to date. This isn't going to stop people legal or not from trying that trick, but it makes it pretty costly if they keep it up.
