A small but wealthy community, Vernon looks like a good place to raise a family.

Vernon is primarily an industrial town with a small residential area located SE of downtown Los Angeles. According to the 2010 US Census, Vernon had a population of 112. It's also the smallest incorporated city in California.

From the article:
"The whole building has a "unique aroma" that's a mix of rancid oil and decomposing meat. And it only gets worse in the summer."

If you watch True Detective (Season 2) , it is actually based on the city of Vernon. The city is notoriously corrupt and mostly industrial.

Uh...you are joking, right? I had a friend in college, who took a summer job at the Farmer John slaughterhouse there. What he saw & had to do made him become vegetarian, and the stories he told me gave me nightmares. I doubt Vernon has changed much since then.
