Last two summers have been very nice at the beach in Southern California with consistently warmer than normal SST and nice warm days and balmy nights on the immediate coast. Do you think it will continue this pattern this coming summer?

Last two summers here on the far north coast have also been exceptionally hot, hot enough last year that even though we are less than ½ mile from the beach, we got tomatoes in an open hot house. I got over 500 cucumbers from just five plants and picked 300 pounds of pumpkins too. We have not had a typical Humboldt cool foggy summer in like 4 years, maybe more. Used to be that 60's were normal and 70's were rare, now 70's are normal and not even the 80's are rare with a 90º day tossed in almost every year now. I think this summer of 2016 will break many records and both NASA and NOAA are forecasting a hot summer with many records being broken.

It was more humid last summer here in Carpinteria, not so much hotter. I did not like it nor did most of my neighbors. The drought has not ended and whats coming down the pike I do not know. Southwest 100 year drought ? I did not vote.

Stick a fork in it. Massive upwelling now going on from quite a ways west of the Galapagos all the way to the shores of Ecuador. Meanwhile, the North Central Pacific SST is dropping like a rock. We be La Nina!

NOAA still has above normal temperatures at our coast in the long range outlook.

Do you think our coastal waters can still remain above average even if the equatorial Pacific cools below normal or do you see the summer of 2016 looking more similar to the summer of 2010's "non-summer" than the last summer?

It's nice to be able to enjoy the water at the beach without getting chilled; SST were just perfect. Those balmy nights felt great that you could be swimming at 10PM or out and about in shorts and a tee shirt at midnight all summer long without being chilled We also got the wettest summer on record paired with the warmth (which is unusual since rain is normally paired with cold here). That greatly reduced the wildfire season last fall. 2 inches of rain in San Diego last July and an inch and a half last September. Felt very Hawaii-like

Ack! When sharks are the most active feeding! You go ahead. I'll watch the picnic and beach towels.

While I don't dispute the appeal, I'm one of the working dead so I won't be able to enjoy it unless it's a weekend. Also, won't somebody think of the landlubbers?
