I'm probably dreaming but is there a city in CA (you can leave LA, San Diego, Fresno out of the mix) that has moderate warm weather year around but still gets a nice Fall with rain, no chance of earthquakes, affordable housing ($200k range for a nice 1,800 - 2,000 sq. ft), good economy with diverse jobss and good pay, culture, arts and entertainment close by and a decent singles scene if you're over 40.

Don't laugh, somewhere like this may exist and I just haven't found it yet!

I think you are dreaming. As for "no chance of earthquakes", there is no guarentee about that and you won't find a 2000 sq.ft. house for $200K in an area that has diverse jobs, good pay, culture, art, entertainment and moderate warm weather year round. I would move there if I could find such a place.

You might want to try Texas or some other state in the Southeast. Good luck to you .

Yeah, it's just that "no chance of earthquakes" and housing in the $200K range that is messing with your dream. If it weren't for those two things, I'd recommend, as I always do, the Santa Cruz area. I'd let go of the earthquake fear. That you can do.
Finding a house for $200.00 there .... i don't think so but check it out. If you're a guy, how 'bout buy some land there, buy a yurt, do some building on your own and marry me?

You would have to be 100 miles inland from the coast to be assured of the no earthquake provision. As for cities you're probably out of luck on that price range and size. There still might be some rural areas in the North Central Valley that would come closer, but I doubt it.

I'm sorry you asked us not to laugh, it probably does exist somewhere, but not in CA.

I seriously doubt that you will find anywhere in California where there are no earthquakes. It is a concern everywhere in the state that I've been, and I've been to a lot of different parts of the state. Also, as was stated above, a 2000 SF house for around 200,000 would not be anywhere near any of the other things that the original poster desired. Something in that price range would either be out in the desert in the northeast (Madeline?) or southeast (Blythe?) parts of the state, or it would be in such poor shape that it would take twice that much to make it into a decent home. Either way, it probably would not be anything that the original poster would be interested in.
