Any relocation advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm considering the Pasadena area as one of my city choices to move in the near future and would like to know of affordable and safe apartments/studios offering 1 bedroom/1 bath. I intend to live as close to my work as possible with walking access to grocery stores and restaurants. I'm trying to find a way to change to a minimal but still fairly comfortable lifestyle even though I know CA is expensive.

Anybody know anything about Huntington Memorial Hospital? I'm also researching hospitals in this area for possible job opportunities in a clinical lab setting (specifically Microbiology).

Is it true that transferring an out-of-state driver's license would only require taking the CA written test and not the road test?

Sorry, I should've been more specific about monthly rent. Around $1500/month, give or take a few hundred?

True, as long as your license is still valid.
Rent is doable.

You should post this question in the LA sub forum or have a moderator move it.

To answer your question re: the DMV, all you will have to do is pass a written test.

I was born at Huntington, it's the best hospital in the SGV. Lots of good doctors there. I have no clue about its micro bio labs.

You can get a clean safe 1 br apartment for 1500. Probably won't be super modern but not a roach infested death trap.

Thanks to both of you for the helpful info! I'm really glad to hear about Huntington hospital because I saw a job opening that I applied for just to see if they'd even contact me even though I'm still an out-of-state resident. At least I know now that it should be one of those quality places to work if I want to live in the surrounding Pasadena area. Simple and safe lodgings are all I need. I'll try to re-post my cost of living question in the L.A. forum too.

With a response to economics, Pasadena is becoming extremely expensive and I heard from GMA on Saturday that Pasadena is one of the SNOBBIEST of cities in the country. I just returned from Long Island and New York City and I will tell you that Pasadena gasoline is extremely high compared to New York City; super unleaded was $2.80, most of the Pasadena corner gas stations is at $3.80 some even at $4. A half a gallon of milk at whole foods in Pasadena is about 5 to 6 dollars and in New York it's $3.5- go figure. The current city management now is regarded as a for sale city getting government and state dollars for importing sex offenders, parolees, section 8, ETC. Every square inch is up for sale to land overs form China to build multiuse commercial and residential complexes destroying what remains of a beautiful, historic city. The city is now overcrowdedwith lack of infrastructure.
Rental apartments vary by location. Good area chided $2000+; homes in a good area $3800+.
I'm renting out my home and moving to a much better area with a better life style.

Can I have your house since you clearly don't need it anymore?

P. S. Half the stuff in your post is wildly inaccurate.
