Recent college black male having trouble finding jobs in my state,

I have a BBA in Information Technology - Networking and Security

From what I hear if you work in IT you can live in California and be completely fine financially?

Is this true?

Yes. Especially if you live and work in San Francisco.

I am currently debating between LA and San Francisco.

Comparatively are there a decent amount of tech jobs in LA?

I lost my license in September and will be receiving it back in April and I was hoping to have some idea of where to move by then.

I have about $2000 saved up but from what I hear IT is one of the biggest industries there is in California so I shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job to pay the bills. My major is in security but I want to get into cyber-security.

Trouble is, most of the IT jobs tend to be in the high cost of living areas of the state. With a specialty in security/cyber-security you might look for positions with local governments or hospitals (for example) in mid-size cities where the COL won't eat you alive. Try to get a job offer before you move; $2000 will be gone in an eye blink.

Both LA and San Francisco are extremely expensive; $2000 is not nearly enough. You should save closer to $10,000 if you can, and $6-8000 at a minimum.

I would strongly advise against moving here unless you have a job lined up, preferably a job that pays at least $70k a year if you want to live in LA or SF. Any less than that and you will struggle.

Seriously. Rents in SF are more than what you have saved up, and you will not only need first, last, and a security deposit, but you will also need references. There's always the option of sharing a place with 3-4 other people, but even then it'll run you between $1500 and $2000 a month.

If you want this you have to REALLY want it and be willing to put in an insane amount of effort.

Not sure why the bold is relevant.

Anyway. On risk of beating it to death, $2000 will be gone by the time you sign your lease so unless you have a job lined up, don't move just yet. Post your resume to Hired.com, shine up your LinkedIn, and and start putting out apps. You'll probably fit in somewhere.

But, unless i overlooked something, your post is the only one that has "black male" in bold.
The o.p. didn't do that.
That said, this country is certainly not yet free of racism.
I can't speak for him, but i imagine it is relevant.

My post used bold to draw attention to the words. Not saying OP put them in bold.

Check some of the job sites, Indeed, Dice.com etc. Apply for jobs online, then if you are contacted ask if they will do an initial telephone interview and offer to fly in for a final interview. My advise would be, save your $2,000 for that rather than relocating and then looking for a job.

That's how people highlight things they want to comment on.
